We are thrilled to confirm Sanjay Bhandari (OW 1986) as our speaker for 2023. Lawyer, former comedian and chair of Football’s anti racism charity Kick It Out, Sanjay will share thoughts on how the things he learned at WGS have endured through the three stages of his life: Earning, Learning and Returning. Given his current roles, he will also be sharing some thoughts on how trying to create change by being reasonable in a tribally divided world is a revolutionary act.
Sanjay has a richly varied portfolio career that spans sport, space technology and serious fraud. He is a frequent media commentator on issues of racism, discrimination and inclusion in football. He has a particular focus on tackling online abuse and recently gave evidence to parliament alongside former Manchester United and England captain, Rio Ferdinand. Elsewhere in sport, Sanjay is also a Director of the Lawn Tennis Association and Greater Sport, the local active partnership that seeks to get 2m people active in Greater Manchester. Sanjay is Chair of the Satellite Applications Catapult which seeks to catalyse innovation in the UK space technology industry.
Sanjay is also a Non-executive Director at the Serious Fraud Office and acts as an independent adviser to businesses particularly on technology-driven growth strategies. Sanjay also serves as a trustee on a number of charities including The World Reimagined, an arts education charity on the transatlantic slave trade that launches in 7 UK cities in summer 2022. Prior to his portfolio career, Sanjay had a 30 year career in the City of London in law, compliance and technology including 12 years as a Partner at EY. He is a member of the Government’s Parker Review on ethnic diversity of UK Boards. When he had a bit of spare time, Sanjay also tried his hand at stand-up comedy.
