My secondary education was split between WGS, (I was born in Wolverhampton in 1951) and the Chippenham School where I did my 0-and A-Levels. Sadly I have only the vaguest memories of WGS, and not as a result of dementia, just lack of recall. My strongest memory is of K T Brockless (Katy), who taught Latin. He really was the standout teacher for me and, as many others have already testified, a huge influence in my education. I have him to thank for my love of language/linguistics and semantics, I also recall Frank Rust who conducted the school choir, notably when Queen Elizabeth II visited the school in 1962. I still feel a frisson every time I hear a choir sing Zadok the Priest. Other masters were P J Norris, who I seem to recall was very dapper and often wore striped shirts, and the one we all called 'Wol' his actual name I have forgotten but something Slavic? I'm sure if I were to be handed a list of the teachers from 1962 to 1965 I would be able to see a mental picture of many without too much difficulty. As for fellow pupils, I'm ashamed to say no names come to mind but, again, if some were to put themselves forward I think that would spark a memory or two. Over to you then!
